Scoring System Overview
The Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) Points Grid is the scoring system used by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) to rank candidates for provincial nomination. The total maximum score is 100 points, awarded across Human Capital Factors and Economic Factors.
Score Breakdown
Highest Qualification Points
Points are awarded for the highest level of education completed. The maximum points for this factor is 12.

Prerequisites: An additional 10 points may be awarded based on the location where the highest level of education was completed in Canada (completed in Alberta: 10 points; completed in another province or territory: 6 points).
First Language Points
Points are determined by the lowest score of all four language competencies (listening, reading, writing, speaking) on an acceptable language test. The AAIP scores both English and French proficiency and awards the higher points between the two scores. The maximum for this factor is 10 points.

Prerequisites: Minimum requirement of CLB 4 for English or NCLC 4 for French across all four language testing competencies to submit an EOI.
Second Language Points
Up to 3 points are awarded for bilingual language proficiency if you have a CLB or NCLC score of 4 or higher in both English and French.

Total Work Experience Points
Points are awarded for total work experience accumulated in Canada and abroad. The maximum for this factor is 11 points.

Age Points

Family Sponsorship Points
Points are awarded for having a family member living in Alberta who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident over 18 years of age. The maximum for this factor is 8 points.

Prerequisites: Candidates who submitted a Worker Expression of Interest on or before January 29, 2025, and claimed family member points for their grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew can continue to claim these points in their existing Worker Expression of Interest.
Job Offer Points
Points are awarded for a job offer for permanent full-time employment in Alberta. The maximum for this factor is 16 points.

Prerequisites for regulated occupation points: To claim the 10 points for working in a regulated occupation, you must hold a valid Alberta Qualification Certificate or a trade certificate recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT). If certification is not compulsory in your occupation and you do not have a trade certificate, you cannot claim points under regulated occupation.

Points are awarded based on the location of the job offer. A maximum of 5 points can be awarded.
