Visa Overview

The Alberta Express Entry Stream is a provincial nomination pathway under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) for skilled workers who have an active federal Express Entry profile.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a nomination under this stream, you must meet minimum assessment requirements, pathway-specific requirements, and selection draw requirements.

Work Requirements

  • If invited under the Accelerated Tech Pathway, you must be working full-time in Alberta under an employment contract or have a bona fide job offer for full-time work.
  • Part-time, casual, or seasonal employees, independent contractors, and temporary agency workers are not eligible under the Accelerated Tech Pathway.
  • Employees who work online from a location outside Alberta or at a premises outside Alberta are not eligible.

Language Requirements

  • You must meet the criteria of at least one of the federal immigration programs managed by Express Entry (Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Program, or Federal Skilled Worker Program), which have their own language requirements.

Minimum Score

  • You must have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300.

Job Offer Requirements

  • If invited based on having an Alberta job offer, you and your Alberta employer must meet all requirements outlined on the Alberta Job Offer and Employment Requirements page.
  • For the Accelerated Tech Pathway, the job offer must be in an eligible occupation and from an employer in the Alberta tech industry.
  • For the Law Enforcement Pathway, you must have a valid job offer from an Alberta police service.

Residence and Regional Requirements

  • You must intend to and be able to live and work permanently in Alberta.

Occupation Requirements

  • Your primary occupation in your Express Entry profile must be included as part of a specific Express Entry stream pathway or identified as an occupation connected to a provincial economic, sector, or occupational priority.
  • For the Accelerated Tech Pathway, your occupation must be on the list of eligible Accelerated Tech Pathway occupations.
  • For the Law Enforcement Pathway, your occupation must be one of the eligible NOC codes (40040, 41310, 42100).
  • For Priority Sectors, your occupation must be an eligible construction, agriculture, or aviation occupation.

Restrictions and Exclusions

  • You are not eligible if your primary occupation is on the Alberta Opportunity Stream Ineligible Occupations list.
  • You are not eligible if you are a refugee claimant or subject to a federal appeal or removal process.
  • You are not eligible if you have an active nomination under any AAIP stream.
  • You are not eligible if currently identified as ineligible to re-apply to the AAIP due to misrepresentation.

Application Process

The AAIP will consider an invitation to apply based on priorities such as the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, Accelerated Tech Pathway, Law Enforcement Pathway, and priority sectors (construction, agriculture, aviation).

  • To confirm selection parameters, review information on selection draws completed by the AAIP on AAIP processing information.

Update Express Entry profile

  • If your Express Entry profile expires in 5 months or less, you may be less likely to be asked to submit an application. It is recommended to keep your profile up to date.
  • If your application was submitted on or after September 30, 2024, and your Express Entry profile expires before a decision, you may submit an updated profile through the AAIP portal.
